New Logo Colour

Encouraged by the first breeze of spring we want to bring a breath of fresh air into the Tibia logo. We want to spice it up by giving it a vibrant new colour!

While we have already narrowed down our favourites we really do have a hard time deciding on the final design so we need your help. We are currently running a poll to let you decide!
Would you prefer an intense shade of fuchsia pink to express your sweet side or a luscious rich purple to show your passion for Tibia? Are you a fan of a dazzling lime green to create a refreshing atmosphere or would you like to see a harmonious liaison of aqua and turquoise to brighten your Tibia days? Or would you prefer a soft rainbow blend because life is fun and colourful?

Go cast your vote and let us know! The colour with the most votes will become the new Tibia logo design. We are really curious to see your choice!

Choose your favourite!

Spring Patch Getting Closer

Are you ready for another spring patch teaser, Tibians? Besides the new content and features we already presented in our previous teasers, the spring patch will introduce even more changes and adjustments which will hopefully help to enrich your gameplay experience further.

  • In order to prevent that players get trapped by others with quest and level doors stacking will be possible on squares with a level or quest door on Optional PvP worlds. It will only be possible to step on that field if you fulfill the required conditions to pass through the door. Also, a quest or level door will only be closed if all players have left the square. Moreveover, monsters, NPCs and summons cannot pass them.
  • As we announced in our first teaser, the loot of some Paw and Fur society creatures and bosses will be improved a bit. In addition, we will also boost the loot of a couple of other creatures, for example, juggernauts, blightwalkers, lost souls and defilers.
  • A few hunting grounds will be extended with the spring patch in order to give players better chances to complete some Paw and Fur society tasks. For example, badgers will roam the surroundings of Svargrond, and fire elementals in the Edron Demon Forge have been replaced by a couple of demons.
  • Your questlog will show the amount of boss points you have gathered through Paw and Fur society tasks.
  • The "Pwned all fur" achievement will be renamed and a new achievement for all Paw and Fur society bosses including the new ones will be introduced.
  • In the Demon Oak quest, the royal crossbow and the spellbook of dark mysteries will be replaced by two unique rewards which will only be obtainable through that quest just like demon legs and the rainbow shield. Players who have already obtained a Demon Oak reward will be able to exchange it by bringing their item to Oldrak. Please note that this exchange only works once.
  • Players who died or left the boss room while fighting Demodras or Tiquandas Revenge, and thus, could not kill them, will get a second chance to fight the boss by talking to Grizzly Adams.
  • Summons will not have corpses anymore.
  • Melee attacks and the defense of Askarak and Shaburak demons will be increased.
  • A couple of already existing item graphics will be polished a bit.
In our previous teaser, we also announced a feature to address house and depot trashing. Unfortunately, we have to postpone this measure since it will not be ready in time to be released together with the spring patch. Of course, we will do our best to finish it as soon as possible and implement it then.

Get ready for the spring patch!

Further Spring Patch Features

With this year's spring patch we plan to address a couple of topics on which we continuously received feedback during the last years because they have caused problems for players or influenced their game experience in a negative way. Our second teaser focuses on one of the bigger ones: Lag and kicks ingame.

Currently, if a player experiences a connection loss because of a local reason, such as a client crash for example, his character is not logged out immediately during a fight but only after 60 seconds. Due to the lack of control over the character during this time, a character's death often follows.
In addition to the already existing precautionary measure of a mass kick which is triggered if the connections to a certain amount of players are lost at the same time, the spring patch will add several new mechanisms to alleviate the negative effects of lag and kicks for players.

If the server identifies that your connection is gone, the time it takes until your character is logged out will then depend on your vocation because each of them has different chances of survival. Druids and sorcerers will be kicked out of the game after 40 seconds, paladins after 50 seconds, knights and characters without a vocation after 60 seconds.
Also, if the server identifies a connection loss, your character will be ignored by monsters for 30 seconds. If your connection gets restored during this time, monsters will attack you again immediately. If you cannot reestablish your connection and your character is logged out so that you have to log in again, a new login mechanism will help to give your character a certain chance to survive such a complete kick.

In general, from the spring patch on, a character will be ignored by monsters for 10 seconds upon login. However, the already existing delay of 10 seconds for area attacks and PvP attacks will be extended to all aggressive actions. So you will have some time to orient yourself but in which you cannot fight. As soon as you move your character or the 10 seconds are up, monsters will stop ignoring you. Please note that if you close your client in case of a connection loss but your character is not yet logged out while you try to log in again, this measure will only be effective twice in a row.

Last but not least, a special icon in the client will be displayed if the quality of your connection falls below a certain threshold and seems to be laggy. If the client does not get any response from the server anymore, you will also be informed about it with a special icon.

Soon, we will continue with our outlook on the content and features the spring patch will bring along, for example, measures to address trashing of depot boxes and houses, and trapping with level and quest doors.

See you in Tibia!

Spring is near!

Winter is gone and finally spring is around the corner. Like every year, we are going to release a spring patch. But this year this patch will be a bit bigger than you might have expected.

So, since some of you are already eagerly waiting let us start with a first teaser...

With the last winter update, we introduced Quirefang, a rough island where the Deeplings and the Hive Born are fighting for supremacy.
Since then, many players repeatedly asked us to make the two world changes Liquid Black and the Hive work independently from each other, so that players can make progress in both changes at the same time. So, here we go:
With the spring patch the world changes will be separated from each other. So if players fulfill the required conditions they can advance both on the hive side and the deepling side. In addition, the status of both world changes will be graphically represented on Gray Beach.
Furthermore, new elite opponents will strengthen the underwater troops of the deepling race.
Also, the Hive Born have bred six bosses. These bosses will spawn in a new room when the hive is in the last stage of the world change. For killing the bosses you will receive some of the points which you need to obtain the Insectoid outfit.

New challenges will be waiting for you in the Paw and Fur Society tasks. More bosses will be added so that every task of the last two level ranges, level 80 – 129, and level 130 plus, will have its own boss, for example the mutated bat boss Bruise Payne, or Fazzrah, the boss of the high class lizzards, just to name two.

You should not try to fight Bretzecutioner if you suffer from claustrophobia.

A couple of creatures and bosses you have to face in the Paw and Fur Society tasks will be strengthened and the loot will be improved a bit.

Besides, we will address the world task A Pirate's Death to Me and the world change The Mummy's Curse. You will then get an individual reward if you successfully finish the A Pirate's Death to Me. Also, Horestis' tomb will not be empty anymore if the world change is in its first stage. Creatures will spawn there to defend the reign of Horestis.

Last but not least: The Easter event will be replaced by the brand new event Spring into Life. Everywhere on the Tibian land dragons are breeding descendants. Will you have the heart to slay these cute fire-breathing babies just to get a small surprise? The event will start on April 16. Further information will follow in due time.

Stay tuned!

Colours of Magic

Time for another colourful competition! The wizards Furb of Fun, Feiz of Power and Fern of Nature want to know again which of them has the most followers.

Starting with the server save on March 15, mysterious envelopes with red, blue or yellow powder can be looted from a variety of monsters. If you need further information on how to colour yourself and mix colours check the letter included in the envelopes or our feedback thread in the Auditorium. Also, each wizard has a loyal fan who provides you with some interesting facts about the event. Nathaniel can be found in Venore, Friedolin in Carlin, and Paulette can be met in Thais.

In order to make the contest a bit more interesting and to stand a chance against Fern, the favourite wizard of most game worlds in the last Colours of Magic events, Furb and Feiz have spiced up their rewards a bit.
The wizard with the most followers on your game world on March 23, server save, wins and you can enjoy his reward for one week:
  • Furb of Fun: The shared experience bonus in party mode will be raised by 30%. The chance to successfully sculpt from ice cubes and marble will be multiplied by 10. Also, fireworks rockets, party trumpets, snowballs and party hats can be found in all the creatures which dropped envelopes.
  • Feiz of Power: The majority of spellcaster creatures such as ice witches or draken spellweavers, for example, will give 25% more experience points. In addition, the skill bonus of berserk and bullseye potions will be raised to +7, and the shielding decrease will be set to -8 instead of -10. The magic level bonus of mastermind potions will be raised to +5.
  • Fern of Nature: All health and mana potions will be enhanced by 10%.
Choose your colour!

Your Dream House

Have you ever dreamed of designing your own house in Tibia? What would it look like?

This year's summer update will bring along a bunch of new houses located outside of cities, each of them having their own unique style like the already existing house Meriana Beach, for example. We have prepared an awesome contest for you, Tibians, to give you the chance to get your idea for a house into the game.

All you need to do is describe the Tibia house you would like to live in by using the template we have provided in the Auditorium. You can also find additional information about the contest and its rules there so make sure to check it before suggesting your idea. The contest starts today and will run until March 22, 2012, 15:00 CET.

Out of all submissions, we will collect promising ones and the content team will then pick their favourites and implement them for the summer update as close to the original ideas as possible. Also, the winners will be rewarded with premium time, a new rare deco item which will also be implemented with the summer update, and a CM token. In addition, we will raffle off various existing deco items among all participants. And now... let your imagination run free!

Good luck!

Interesting Facts about Guilds

True to the motto "together we are strong" many Tibia players unite in guilds to face the evil in the Tibian lands. Guilds are small social systems, similar to families. The sense of belonging among members is usually very high, so they protect and support each other, and spend their Tibian lives together.

Guilds have formed in Tibia right from the very beginning, organised by players themselves. The guild system similar to as we know it today was implemented in Tibia in February 2002 with the update 6.6, in order to technically support the ongoing process of teaming up.

On the old official Tibia homepage from the year 2000 we can see several guilds listed there already. Do some of them sound familiar to you?

Since Antica is the oldest Tibia game world and had been the only game world for more than 4 years, most of the oldest guilds today can be found on this server. Not all guilds survived all these years, but the Mercenarys, for example, still exist.

The oldest guilds in Tibia

Our records of guilds only go back as far as 2002, so the following list is the list of the oldest guilds in Tibia as our system knows them. It is pretty impressive to know that all of them have existed for about 10 years now, and several of them even longer. Also for this reason, the oldest guilds in Tibia have just recently been honoured on Tibia's 15th anniversary.

guildnameparts of the guild descriptions
Soldiers of Justice...We have gathered to work together against thieves and murderers...
Mercenarys...protection, guarding missions and of course we eliminate people you want to see down....
Red Rose...We are peaceloving and try to uphold law and noble virtues, but like the rose we have sharp thorns, too!...
Satori...Justice and order shall be established once again, chaos shall be driven back into its murky lair....
Messiahs of Bedlam...His sword defends the helpless, His might upholds the weak....
Knights of the Round Table...We protect our brothers and sisters. In our guild friendship is prioritized.... fighting against evil and injustice. ...honour and fraternity. Together we will prevail!...
Tribe...However, one thing binds them; the Tribe....
Friends of Honour...For our peaceful home, our unity, our strength and our Honour. We will stay forever, we will stand together, we are the Friends of Honour....
House of Salinos...We proudly carry his family traditions forward, setting the family and its household first, thereby servicing the Tibian society and it's better values.... For the Family; by bonds of Honor and Valor
General Levy of Sarmats...everyone of us is a master for himself, but together we are General Levy....

The 13 oldest guilds can all be found on Antica. The next oldest guild are the "Rising Dragons Amera", the oldest guild on Amera. The 15th is again on Antica, but the 16th and 17th oldest guilds are both on Nova, they are the "Los Hermanos" and the "Hussars of Glory" and the 18th oldest guild is on Secura, the "Force of Light".
Oldest Tibia game worlds
  • Antica - set up in January 1997
  • Nova - set up in December 2001
  • Premia - set up in April 2002
  • Amera - set up in October 2002
  • Libera and Secura - set up in November 2002
No other game world is represented among the 20 oldest guilds, which is no wonder, really, since these game worlds are among the 5 oldest Tibia game worlds.

If we look at these guild descriptions, we can see what most guilds are about in Tibia: Unity, Strength, Protection, Help, Friendship, Honour, Justice and Virtues. Virtues such as "Loyality".

In a poll in September 2011 we asked you, the community, How loyal are you to your guild? Over 50 % of the 1644 poll participants replied with "very loyal - there is only one guild for me". Only about 11 % replied that they are not interested in guilds.

So, generalising, we conclude from the poll results that almost 90 % of active players are interested at least in part in guilds. That means: it is time to look into some statistics: About 141,000 characters are members of a guild (among which there are 3770 Rookgaardians.).
Seeing that there are currently over 5 million Tibia characters, the number of all guild members is pretty low. So the argument, that the poll was not very representative is valid. We could stop right here looking any further at statistics, however, keeping in mind that a very large part of these 5 million characters are not played actively, we will continue...
We have commented on actively played accounts already in the Statistics featured article of June 2009, and that situation has not changed greatly. Many people create an account and start their journey, but then do not continue their adventure and leave the game. Their characters though prevail for quite some time.
So, we have gathered some further statistics, which we would like to share with you.

Guilds Today

When the data was collected, there were around 4160 guilds in Tibia. The game world Menera is the server with the most guilds (132), and Ocera has the fewest guilds (11). The average number of guilds per server is between 50 and 55.
A guild usually has between 30 to 50 members. The guild with the most members is the guild "Cartel de Julera" with 675 members!
"Cartel de Julera" is also the guild with the most female characters (94), however the Queens of Solera are the guild with the highest women / men ratio. In this guild there are 39 female characters, and only 4 male characters.
This guild is quite the contrary to the average guild women / men ratio. On average, there are approximately 5 times more male characters in a guild than female characters. This ratio represents also the women / men ratio among all characters. Currently there are about 4.6 million male characters, and approximately 960,000 female characters.

Most guilds use their own guild logos (2914), but only very few actually use the guild boards on Tibia.com. There are only 746 guild boards from over 4000 guilds.

We have also taken a closer look at the guild leaders. The average level of a guild leader is 138. The vocation distribution among guild leaders looks as follows:

professioncount
Elite Knight1329
Elder Druid819
Royal Paladin818
Master Sorcerer715
Knight117
Sorcerer114
Druid97
Paladin97
None54

So - generalising - a typical guild in Tibia looks like that: It has between 30 and 50 guild members, about 5 times more male characters than female characters, the guild leader is around level 140, and more likely an elite knight than a master sorcerer. The typical guild probably has its own guild logo, but hardly a guild board on Tibia.com

Please note that all data used in this article is a snapshot of specific moment in the beginning of February 2012, there are variations in the data all the time.

If you are interested in further statistics or information about guilds, several fansite in the fansite programme offer such data as well. One fansite that focusses on guild information is Guildstats.eu, for example.

Some guilds are very funny and creative, too. CM Tjured collects funny guild names and we would like to share some of the names of his collection:

For example, he likes the "Nerds" of Balera and the "Fools" of Calmera.
On Galana, he stumbled across a German guild, they are called "Achtung die Kurve", which basically means: "be careful, the turn" - which does not really make any sense as a guild name...
The "Drunken Disco Ninjas" on Olympa also caught his attention, or the guild "New Folder", with the corresponding icon as their guild logo.
On Samera, there is an entire "Kindergarten" running around, and on Unitera you can meet the "Barbaric Bananas".
Have any of you ever heard of the famous "Teletubbies"? Who would have thought that these awkward creatures you can meet on television actually reside on Xantera.

Are you in a guild? Does your guild fit the typical guild in Tibia? Or have you come across some funny guild names, or astonishing and creative guild logos? We invite you to share it all with us in the Auditorium!

Stay united!

A Couple of Fixes

With today's server save, a few fixes were implemented, for example:
  • We fixed an issue with Noodles sometimes not appearing in the mini world change "Noodles is gone".
  • Item traps do not deal damage anymore if they are armed in the boss room of a paw and fur society boss.
  • Constantly performing the exact same action ingame, e.g. by jamming a hotkey, is now detected as being idle after 15 minutes. Characters log out automatically if they have been idle for sixteen minutes.
If you want to talk about the latest content fixes with other players, you can leave your comments in the thread Player Discussions: Content Fixes.

Enjoy!
